Accountability Lab Nigeria has revealed that it screened out no fewer than 800 entries to five nominees for the 2020 Integrity Icon award.
Integrity Icon Nigeria is an annual campaign run by Accountability Lab Nigeria which seeks to name and fame honest government officials, thereby encouraging integrity in the public service.
Featuring on a radio program, PUBLIC CONSCIENCE produced by the Progressive Impact Organization for Community Development, the Lead Communication, Mr Prince Chamaroke Chukwuka and Project Assistant, Mr Mnenga Shiiuwa, described the screening process as thorough, robust and highly professional.
Reeling out some of the activities of the last five nominees that led to their selection, Mr Chukwuka said the nominations came from far and wide, touching Nigerians in public service who stood their ground against corruption and impunity in their capacity.
He also noted that reputable organisations and professionals were brought in to handle the final phase of the screening.
According to Chukwuka, the Executive Director, PRIMORG, Mr Okhiria Agbonsuremi and representatives from ICPC, GEJ Foundation, CISLAC, and Oando PLC were saddled with the responsibility of bringing out the best five out of the 836 persons nominated for the 2020 Integrity Icon Award.
Agbonsuremi, a co-anchor of the radio program also reacted to the mild drama that ensued at the National Assembly on Tuesday, which saw the Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Productivity, Festus Keyamo, engage lawmakers in a hot verbal exchange over the 774,000 job recruitment by the National Directorate of Employment, NDE.
He hailed the Minister for standing up to the National Assembly committee members and rejecting going into a closed door meeting following their imbroiglio which would have concealed truth from the general public.
The unveiling of this year’s winners of the Integrity Icon Awards will take place in October.
